How Do I Become An Egg Donor?
Donors may be chosen to freeze their eggs and/or participate in traditional egg donation. The process for traditional egg donation from initial matching with a recipient to the actual egg retrieval generally takes 6-8 weeks. Prior to being matched, each donor candidate must submit the following:
- Donor profile - This is a comprehensive background questionnaire. It is important that you answer all questions as completely and accurately as possible.
- 3-6 photos (minimum) - These photos should include a baby/toddler photo, childhood/teenage photo, and a more recent candid photo.
- Psychological assessment - You will need to be evaluated by a licensed psychologist prior to any egg donation procedure. Egg Donor Conceptions Inc will pay all costs for this evaluation however you will be responsible for making and keeping the appointment.
- Genetic consultation - You will be asked to participate in a phone interview with a genetic counselor to discuss your family health history. There may be some donors who are excluded from the donor process based on the genetic assessment. Egg Donor Conceptions Inc will also pay for the cost of the genetic consultation.
- Physical exam - Once the screening process has been completed, you will be scheduled to see a fertility specialist. The doctor will review your screening tests and questionnaire and explain the medical aspects of egg donation. You will also have a complete physical exam and a vaginal ultrasound. Blood will be drawn to test for infectious diseases and genetic conditions. At this time, the doctor will discuss the medical procedures that will take place over the following weeks.
Upon being selected for an egg donor cycle (either to freeze eggs or to be matched with a recipient) all donors will participate in the following screening assessments:
